RiExerciser home networking functionality can be used for streaming remote recordings, live channels and vpop.  Below are basic tests for verifying HN functionality using RiExerciser.  For a more comprehensive discussion on RiExerciser HN configurations, options and functionality please see Home Networking Testing with RiExerciser.

Configuration

In $OCAPROOT/bin/$OCAPTC/env configure final.properties and mpeenv.ini in the server and player to include:

  • final.properties (server & player)

OCAP.hn.multicast.iface=eth0

OCAP.hn.server.name=ServerName 

OCAP.hn.server.chunkEncodingMode=always

OCAP.hn.server.vpop.enabled=true   (only required for VPOP testing)

  • mpeenv.ini  

HN.EXCLUDE.EXTRA.CHUNK.HEADERS=false

Playback a Remote Recording

 1.  Start the RiExerciser on the server and player.

> cd $PLATFORMROOT
> ./runRI.sh -setup -xlet RiExerciser

2.  On the server create a 30 second recording.

  • Select Option 1, Display DVR Menu.
  • Select Option 1, Start a Recording
  • Select Option 1, Start 30-sec Instant Recording
  • Wait for recording to complete.  A recording complete message will display in the GUI log.

3.  Publish the recording to the server's CDS.

  • Return to the RIExerciser General Menu.
  • Select Option 2, Display Home Networking Menu.
  • Select Option 1, HN Server Options.
  • Select Option 1, Display Publish Recording Menu.
  • Select Option 1, Publish current recording to CDS.
  • Wait for publishing to complete.  A publish confirmation will display in the GUI log.

4. Playback the recording on the player.

  • On the player, select Option 2, Display Home Networking Menu.
  • Select Option 2, HN Player Options.
  • Select Option 1, Display list of all Media Servers on a network.
  • Select server from list in pop-up window. (Note: you will need to press the "Select" key on the remote to activate the window.)
  • Select Option 2, Select Content Item for JMF playback OR Select Option 3, Select Remote Service for Playback.
  • From pop-up menu select video container.
  • From pop-up menu select recording for playback.
  • Recording playback starts.  Play, Pause, Rewind and Fast Forward should all be functional on the player.

Live Streaming

 1.  Start the RiExerciser on the server and player.

> cd $PLATFORMROOT
> ./runRI.sh -setup -xlet RiExerciser

2.  Publish the channel to the server's CDS.

  • On the server's RIExerciser General Menu, Select Option 2, Display Home Networking Menu.
  • Select Option 1, HN Server Options.
  • Select Option 2, Display Publish Channel Menu.
  • Select Option 1, Publish current channel in CDS.
  • Wait for publishing to complete.  A publish confirmation will display in the GUI log.

3. Live stream server channel on the player.

  • On the player, select Option 2, Display Home Networking Menu.
  • Select Option 2, HN Player Options.
  • Select Option 1, Display list of all Media Servers on a network.
  • Select server from list in pop-up window. (Note: you will need to press the "Select" key on the remote to activate the window.)
  • Select Option 2, Select Content Item for JMF playback OR Select Option 3, Select Remote Service for Playback.
  • From pop-up menu select video container.
  • From pop-up menu select channel for live streaming.
  • Live streaming starts.  Stream plays on player at 1x. Player stream should not lag server stream by more than 1 or 2 seconds.  Play, Pause, Rewind and Fast Forward should all be functional on the player.

VPOP

1.  Start the RiExerciser on the server and player.

> cd $PLATFORMROOT
> ./runRI.sh -setup -xlet RiExerciser

2. Stream VPOP on the player.

  • On the player, select Option 2, Display Home Networking Menu.
  • Select Option 2, HN Player Options.
  • Select Option 1, Display list of all Media Servers on a network.
  • Select server from list in pop-up window. (Note: you will need to press the "Select" key on the remote to activate the window.)
  • Select Option 4, VPOP Player Test Menu Page. (Note: VPOP can also be streamed using JMF or Remote Service for playback).
  • Select Option 1, Stream VPOP.
  • VPOP starts.  Stream plays on player at 1x.  Play, Pause, Rewind and Fast Forward will NOT be functional on the player.
  • Channel up on the server.  The video on the player will change when video on the server changes.
  • Playback a local recording on the server using DVR playback option.  Recording playback will be streamed on the player.
